Spring is in the air! Despite unpredictable weather, schools and families are preparing for Spring Break road trips. Before you hit the roads, make sure your vehicle is up to the task!

The two most common causes of breakdowns on the roads are:

Tires. While you can’t always predict sudden damage from a nail or debris in the road, you can check your tires for signs of a slow leak. We recommend checking your tire pressure every time you fill up your gas tank. Proper pressure can improve mileage and performance, saving you money at the pump and maximizing the life of your tires!

Battery. Most drivers don’t think about testing the battery before it starts showing symptoms of failure. Pop the hood and check the battery terminals for signs of corrosion, leaking fluid, or white powder. Before a road trip, stop by our shop to have the battery tested – it’s quick and can save you the stress and hassle of a car that won’t start on the road.

Other common causes of breakdowns include:
• Faulty alternator
• Fuel problems
• Brakes
• Overheating engine
• Mechanical failure

The good news is ALL of these are avoidable with preventative maintenance!

A trained technician, like the ones at Meister Import Motors, can spot the warning signs of an aging battery, failing clutch, or other mechanical issues. You can avoid potentially dangerous situations with regular inspections, proper diagnosis, and recommended services at the first sign of a problem.

Do not ignore warning signs! If your vehicle has a strange noise, smell, or handling issue, bring it in for an inspection right away.
